About
This Project

The Glasshouse at Macquarie Square is one of the most innovative and technologically advanced Smart Buildings in Australia. The 35,114 m2 office building features eight levels of office space, with active ground floor retail, premium end of trip facilities and 350 secure car parking spaces for tenants.

Flooded with natural light, and designed to foster collaborative working, the Glasshouse is a flexible workspace with a dramatic central atrium. Like a modern glasshouse, it inspires the perfect balance of inspiration, creativity and productivity.

The building was designed from inception to be a Smart Building and was targeted by the developer John Holland to be a best in class showcase for technological processes and methods throughout the design, construction and commissioning process.

The Glasshouse building connects 32 separate building systems, to a cyber-secure, resilient IP backbone and an Open Data Integration Platform (OIP) that selectively monitors over 12,000 data streams from over 1,300 field devices. The OIP platform utilises a Building Information Dashboard that provides over 70 dashboards for a range of stakeholders to review system status data in real-time, and to provide historical trends of building systems used to enhance operational efficiency, contextual decision making and predictive maintenance.

The Glasshouse has implemented Smart Bathroom technology throughout each bathroom on every level of the building to provide a touchless user experience and to provide monitoring of all 449 Smart Command bathroom fixtures to reduce maintenance, measure water usage and improve user experience.

The building has adopted a mobile-first strategy and promotes the use of smartphone mobile access for tenants that can be used for accessing the building, recharging electric vehicles and accessing lockers in the end of trip facilities.

The Glasshouse sets the highest standards for innovation and luxury providing a state of the art End of Trip facilities including smart bathroom technology, smart lockers, and digital screens displaying a range of user-friendly building performance data and tenant information.

The lobby provides tenants and visitors with free public Wi-Fi and wireless charging stations for greater connectivity and a seamless user experience.

The user experience for entering the carpark has been enhanced through the use of Automated License Plate Recognition, remote mobile access and extensive electric vehicle charging stations.

The Glasshouse was pre-sold to Charter Hall in 2019 with Transport for NSW as the anchor tenant.

The building was the winner of the Commercial Building award in its category at the Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Construction Awards 2020.
