ABOUT THIS PROJECT

80 Collins Street is a mixed, use development in the East end of Melbourne CBD consisting of a new premium quality office tower (the South Tower) and a new 300 room hotel. The podium levels will integrate the existing commercial building (the North Tower) into the overall development, reinvigorating it's public spaces.

The South Tower is designed to meet PCA Premium Grade benchmarks and the wider development is designed to align with QIC's ESD and best practice principles for accessibility, sustainability, internal environment quality, energy usage and waste management.

The project was for an independent design review of the services engineering design.

SCOPE

Meld's engagement on this project was to conduct an independent Technology Review of the current Design Brief and project documentation to benchmark the design against industry best practices for a Smart Building Design.

The objective of the review was to determine whether any refinements to the current design could be achieved and to identify any key gaps or opportunities that should be addressed.

Key recommendations for technology improvements included: the inclusion of an ICN, removal of redundant cabling, addition of an Integration Platform, addition of a Smart Lighting Control system and improvements to building resilience.
